The Regimental Wives Club Calendar 2013

Wives of the Light Dragoons have got together to create a charity Calendar to raise money for the Colonel’s Appeal:

"As wives of the Light Dragoons, we are more than aware of the risks our husbands take when deployed. It is for this reason the Light Dragoons Colonel's Appeal is close to our hearts. We wanted to do something to show our support.

A group of 29 of us have got together to produce an amusing - we hope! - calendar which depicts us running Robertson Barracks while our husbands are away. We have had a great deal of fun putting it together, and hope people will support us by buying it - and that they will enjoy what we have produced!"

The calendar has been a totally Light Dragoon affair, with ex Light Dragoon Chris Jelf, now a professional photographer, giving up his time to take the photographs. In addition Jenni Sime, a Light Dragoon wife, who runs her own graphic design company, has donated her time to make the calendar look fantastic.

The calendars have been a huge success raising a substancial amount for the Appeal. There are only a few left at HHQ so why not show your support and order yours today. You can get yours at a cost of £5 plus P&P by calling 0191 239 3141

The Regiment will be celebrating its home coming by parading through the streets of Dereham where they are currently bases.

Why not go along and support our Regiment on this there third parade. There will be many organised parties afterwards, for more information on the parade look at

Our good friend Paul Sandford from the Railway Tavern will be putting on drink for the soldiers.

Ray who is a north east prison officer and had a brother in the regiment managed to get one or two fellow officers from HMP Northumberland to help him out in raising funds for the Appeal. Between an inmate v officers football match and Ray busking and selling his CD’s at a variety of North East gigs they managed to raise over £1400. Ray managed to find time to visit HHQ and present a cheque to Captain Ruddick prior to the North East homecoming parade. We would like to thank Ray and his fellow prison officers along with everyone who allowed Ray to use their venues for this event.

Emma Harris – Nice Marathon on Sunday 4th November

Emma absolutely hates running but managed it in 5hrs 12min, which we are all amazed by!
Please read her message below:

Dear All

I didn't want to ask for sponsorship before my marathon attempt, as quite frankly, I wasn't entirely convinced that I would get to the finish line. Ever since I was forced to endure weekly cross country running on the freezing Yorkshire Moors as a child, I have absolutely loathed running in any form, so I’m not really sure what possessed me to take on a marathon. However, from a cold start in May, the training got me through, and I am very pleased to report that I finished the Nice Marathon on Sunday 4th November. I would be eternally grateful for any donations to a charity which is very close to my heart, which would make the pain of running worthwhile!

As I am sure many of you are aware, the Light Dragoons have just returned from their fourth tour of Afghanistan, and sadly, as with the previous tours, it was not without cost. The Colonel's appeal was established to help both soldiers and families who have suffered loss and injury. The following link explains exactly why they are such an important charity.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this, and I really would be grateful to any donations at all to this really worthwhile cause.

A Bridge Day – Hosted by Peter and Liz Plant – Wednesday 7th November

Liz and Peter took the words of their son the Commanding Officer quite literally when he spoke of “Driving Hard” to achieving our target. They both took part in the "Classic Car Rally" which gave them the inspiration to do their own activity for the Appeal.

Liz and Peter are just back from their holidays, they wasted no time in contacting HHQ with a request for tickets. It seems that the event is very popular, so don’t delay get your booking form filled in or contact HHQ

You can find full details and a booking form by going to the NEWS section on the website or contact HHQ

Colonel Jeremy and Dorrit have certainly earned their spurs for this one. They completed the 180km to qualify for the Silver Thistle Award culminating in a gruelling 81km trial averaging a speed of 12.66kmh.

Time in the saddle for the riders was 6hr 24mins with constant tests of both horse and rider to ensure they were fit to continue, Colonel Jeremy and Dorrit relied upon the assistance of Rachel McDonald and Caroline Hailes to get them through this challenge that has raised well over £1,000.

It looks like they were using champagne as a form of painkiller. Well done to all.

Fashion Show at the Holiday Inn Hotel in Barnsley – Friday 12th October

The Barnsley committee managed to pull off another great event. Paul, Danny, Tugg and the team created a fantastic evening and with the support of soldiers from the Regiment provided the colour and support for the show. The ladies looked fantastic in all their attire but I am sure most of the men enjoyed the swimwear. Have a look at the NEWS section for the up to date photographs.
